Becoming a new parent is challenging; postpartum symptoms can exacerbate those challenges and impact a mother's ability to attach and bond with her new baby. In recent years, postpartum depression has been discussed more openly; yet, it is still not uncommon for women to keep their symptoms to themselves.
My approach with mothers and infants is to collaboratively create the most optimum environment for mother and baby to thrive. This includes working on issues of postpartum depression as soon as they present and providing the dyad with ongoing support and treatment.
